"The famous Santa Ponsa beach in Majorca"
Santa Ponsa is the larger beach which has been extended with imported sand. A more sheltered second beach is Calo d'en Pellicer, slightly smaller and closer to the marine club. The third, more exclusive beach is Castellot. If you fancy a dip or ride on one of the many water activities, you will find the temperature of the water warm and the appearance clear. For those who prefer not to take
a packed lunch to the beach, the promenade is pedestrianised, featuring shade provided by pine trees and runs in front of the beach. |
Santa Ponsa has evolved into a number one choice for Irish and Scottish holidaymakers, so there's an abundance of establishments with Celtic roots. Live music and a good craic are always on the menu, along with all your favourite homegrown dishes. If you're looking for a plate of paella, a pizza or a kebab – don't despair. You'll find it all in Santa Ponsa. There are the usual beachfront restaurants, bars, shops and cafés. Being a resort favored by northern British holiday makers, Santa Ponsa has developed a Celtic flavour, with a number of Scottish and Irish themed pubs and bars, but it remains popular with a range of visitors of different ages. |
Since the '60s it has developed rapidly from a small village and now has it's own popular marina in addition to the usual resort features. Santa Ponsa beach was recently extended, as were several beaches in the Calvia area. Sand was dredged from the bay out at sea and pumped onto the beach. It has a promenade which cuts across it, dividing the area where there are a number of pine trees providing shade. he main sandy beach is separated from the pine woods by the promenade. Public Toilets are located at the beach bars. It's not necessary to be a customer of the bars to be able to use the toilet facilities. |
Santa Ponsa beach has been awarded the Blue Flag, which means it adheres to the strict rules and standards that the system dictates. It has also been awarded the prestigious “Q” for European Quality. This is given for the high quality of sea water and sand at the beach in conjunction with the great facilities available at and around the beach area. |
In Magaluf, which is close to Santa Ponsa Beach , you find the very popular 'Western Water Park' and the great 'Pirates Show' with acrobatics, gymnastics and dancing. Both worth visiting. Swimming in the Santa Ponsa bay is quite safe due to it not having very strong currents and the water is fairly shallow, being perfect for younger children. Here's a handy tip - if you want to get away from the crowds head to the next bay round to find the smaller and less crowded beach located there. |
