Calvia is a municipality on the island of Majorca in the Balearic Islands. Calvia located in the southwestern part of the island of Majorca, between the Serra de Tramuntana and the Serra de Na Burguesa. According to the 2008 census, the municipality had a population of 50,777 inhabitants, of whom 18,046 were foreigners. Today, Calvia is the second most populated area of the entire archipelago Balearic after Palma, and also an area that has the largest number of tourists in the islands. Calvia is popular travel destination for tourism and there are also many property buyers from Britain, Germany and Russia. It has infrastructure for tourism - hotels, professional golf courses, water parks, etc. There are 14 beaches and 4 sport ports. The region of Calvia offers award winning beaches, excellent sports facilities, including four top golf courses and two important "superyacht" harbours: Puerto Portals and Puerto Adriano, which is currently being enlarged, according to a project designed by Philippe Starck. The proximity of Palma means that it may take as little as 15 minutes to reach the city centre of the capital of Mallorca |
Calvia is one of the wealthiest municipalities in Europe and the region takes its name from the traditional Mallorcan village of Calvia, originating from the Middle Ages. It is set against the Traumuntana Mountains and provides a complete contrast to the buzz of the beach resort, offering the chilled atmosphere of traditional Mallorca. The most famous building is the local church, built in the XIX century onto an older temple and combining neo-romantic and neo-gothic elements. |
Golf Poniente is located major summer resort of Calvia, only 12km by motorway from the city of Palma. This is one of Mallorca's oldest courses. The golf cource is situated between pine trees and has seven lakes, numerous bukers, the excellent fairways, variety of the greens, etc. The "House of Katmandu" is located in resort of Magalluf (municipality of Calvia). It is a collection of lots of little odd bits as working robots, mirrored corridors, a rotating tunnel to walk through and some amazing matchstick buildings |
The holiday resort of Magaluf is located on island of Majorca in municipality of Calvia. It is situated within a group of towns as Torrenova and Palma Nova. The resort comprises three main beaches, popular for their white sand: Majorca Beach, Magaluf Beach and Palma Nova Beach. These beaches are lined with small bars and 'tat' shops backed by hotels. The resort is very popular among the British and Scandinavian tourists. Many visitors to Calvia choose to rent their lodging in Paguera where there is a wide variety of vacation rental accommodations to suit every taste and budget. There are many hotels along the beach promenade, homes with magnificent views, apartment rentals on the beach, cheap hostels and guest houses, and private holiday villas. |
